Main Street Motion Media is a film
and media arts non-profit that programs
and exhibits independent films and
digital media in historic performing
arts centers and museums across the
US and Canada. In combination with
an acclaimed year-round film exhibition
program we provide digital storytelling
workshops to non-filmmakers that teach
your community how films are developed
and produced - and more urgently provide
them with the technology and writing
tools they need tell their own stories
in the complex digital world.
There is no single art event that
draws audiences in as great a number
or as frequently as independent films,
documentaries and related festivals.
Film and digital media arts is an
art form that has no doubt changed
your community. That's because unlike
other art forms, film is for everyone.
It is as an instrument of expression,
education and empowerment. It provides
the means to an expanded understanding
of the world and our place in it.
We at Main Street Motion Media observed
that it has become more and more challenging
to take on this responsibility as
a standalone venue. Admissions rarely
if ever cover the costs of the infrastructure
necessary to run a viable and comprehensive
film arts program. Besides, when has
attendance alone ever dictated the
value of art, regardless of the form
it takes?
Kathleen Kamping, Founder and President
of Main Street Motion Media believes
film is art. Curators exhibit work
in their museums, often to small audiences
- the success of a work should only
by exception be summed up by box office,
alone.
